What is the best razor/shaving cream for thick facial hair?

I'm a 21 year old guy with light skin and dark hair. I have really thick/dark facial and my skin gets easily irritated. What razor and shaving cream do you recommend for me? Also, I want a really close shave. Should I shave in the opposite direction I normally would or go with the grain of my hair? Finally, I have red bumps on my neck after I shave. Are these ingrown hairs?

    Here's my suggestion:

Buy a double-edged safety razor. They're old school but they shave just as well as the multi-blade systems on the market and they're more gentle on the skin. Not to mention, less expensive.

As for shaving cream — I recommend the line 'King of Shaves'. I was just turned onto this brand by doing a lot of research and it's good stuff. It has aloe and antiseptic properies, so it's good for ingrowns. Also, it's low foam, so you're able to see where you shave. It doesn't gunk up like other shaving creams either.

Shave with the growth of the hair, then sideways.

As for shaving cream, I really recommend Aveeno.

I have been using it for about a year now and I don’t get red bumps anymore. It’s a lighter cream that doesn’t clog up the blades (I use Fusion with the battery power)
