How do I ask my dad about shaving facial hair?

Author: Ok, I have had facial hair noticeably for about a year now. It has now just gotten darker and more noticeable. I want to start shaving but am reluctant to ask my dad. I want to shave and I am starting to look kinda scruffy. I don't want to go off and do it by myself, because the situation with my parents would just get more awkward. Please give advice on how to ask, I am looking bad, am tired of the hair, and want to start very soon!

Can I use soap instead of shaving cream when I shave my facial beard?
My dad said that using soap when shaving is the same as using shaving cream. It's my first time to shave my facial hair(beard and chin) and I haven't started shaving because of this soap/shaving cream issue. I need some help. Thanks.
